What is happening?

DAWA (the Danish Addresses Web API) at dawa.aws.dk is run by the Danish Climate Data Agency (SDFI) and closed on 1 October 2026 at 10:00. The official successor is Datafordeleren — but it does not speak DAWA's language: different endpoints, GraphQL/WFS instead of plain REST, no built-in autocomplete or address cleansing.

Thousands of Danish systems — webshops, CRM, GIS, citizen portals, insurance and logistics platforms — use DAWA for address search, autocomplete, validation and geocoding. Now that DAWA is closed, those integrations no longer work until they are migrated.

The easiest path is a drop-in DAWA-compatible API: same endpoints and responses, so you only change the base URL and add a key. No rewrite, no new data models.

  1. Get a free key at danadresse.dk (2,000 calls/month).
  2. Change dawa.aws.dk / api.dataforsyningen.dk → api.danadresse.dk.
  3. Add the X-Api-Key header. Test on staging, then deploy.
