DAWA closes
17 August 2026

dawa.aws.dk stops responding. Here is what it means, who it hits, the timeline — and what to do now.

What is happening?

DAWA (the Danish Addresses Web API) at dawa.aws.dk is run by the Danish Climate Data Agency (SDFI) and closes on 17 August 2026. The official successor is Datafordeleren — but it does not speak DAWA's language: different endpoints, GraphQL/WFS instead of plain REST, no built-in autocomplete or address cleansing.

Thousands of Danish systems — webshops, CRM, GIS, citizen portals, insurance and logistics platforms — use DAWA for address search, autocomplete, validation and geocoding. When DAWA closes, those integrations stop working unless they are migrated.

Timeline

NU

Now → June 2026

DAWA still runs. Test a drop-in alternative risk-free in parallel.

JUL 2026

Final warnings

SDFI sends deprecation headers and emails. Time gets short.

17/8 2026

DAWA shuts down

dawa.aws.dk no longer responds. Non-migrated systems break.

EFTER

Only Datafordeleren — or us

Datafordeleren is the only official source. Or switch to a DAWA-compatible API.

What do you do now?

The easiest path is a drop-in DAWA-compatible API: same endpoints and responses, so you only change the base URL and add a key. No rewrite, no new data models.

  1. Get a free key at danadresse.dk (1,000 calls/month).
  2. Change dawa.aws.dk / api.dataforsyningen.dkapi.danadresse.dk.
  3. Add the X-Api-Key header. Test in parallel, switch when confident.
